This was so peaceful and atmospheric
In August, Jo and I went to Yorkshire to see some of the places associated with Richard III. On the way, we stopped off at Fotheringhay Castle in Northamptonshire where Richard was born in 1452. Something I discovered while we were there was that Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned, tried and executed in the castle in 1587.
The site felt very peaceful and had some gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside from the top of the mound. While we were standing on the top, we thought it was a very small space for people to live in. It wasn’t until I was looking through my photos afterwards and saw the artists’ impressions of what it would have looked like that I realised it was only the keep that was on top of the mound. There would also have been other buildings at the base.
